Curriculum

The curriculum is designed to accommodate each individual child’s physical, social learning and emotional level and needs while respecting their desire to know or to try.
The curriculum for each program includes;

i) art & music

Painting in 3-primary-colors is taught as well as pottery and photographing. Music and rhythm are also taught through the introduction of beautiful old Japanese songs.

In addition, the students will be taught to play instruments not only by our staff, but also by professional guest musicians. These lessons will be in Japanese.

ii) gym

It is important to stimulate a child’s mind even when nursing. At FIS we are dedicated to stimulate through play rather than descipline. Studies show that it does more harm than goodto give children intensive physical training because it can be very stressful.

At FIS we strive to teach cordinated movement through play which will enhance the basic capacity for locomotion as well as foster their positive feeling and desire to try.
*These exercises will take place at the nearby public gym.
*Every child will wear a pedometer to track their activity. This enables us to promote physicaldevelopment and coordination in our students. Without being aware of it,the walking and running involved in play will provide students with essential exercise.

iii) language

Our students will be fully immersed in English. This wonderful environment gives them the opportunity to gain bilingual skills and near native linguistic talent.

iv) natural science

Today our Earth is in serious trouble because of the greenhouse effect, ozone depletion, acid rain, endangered species etc.

At FIS we strive to teach our students the significance of protecting nature. Our subjects include lessons on saving energy, trash separation, recycling, cleaning up river banks and beaches, and coexistence with wild animals and plants.

If the students don’t know how nature works, they won’t understand that it needs to be protected.

Therefore,we have incorporated ‘Nature’ into our curriculum as much as possible.

This program is called “Nature Explorer” after the NASA’s lunar explorer. Through different activities, students learn about ecological systems in the world of nature.

The students get hands on experience, exploring the woods, beaches, seashores, fields and river banks to see and touch the animals and plants.
